In my first post Lip Color Tells Our Health Condition, various conditions related to lip color changes are highlighted. I noticed that there’re quite a number of visitors looking for information about pale lips.

They asked if there’s any remedies to darken or redden their upper lip or lower lip. From the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) point of view, yes there are.

Before I go into it, let me restate the possible causes of pale upper and lower lips:

Pale Or Greenish Upper Lip
You might have weak intestine, diarrhea, bloatedness, stomachache, fear of cold etc.

Pale Lower Lip
An indication of weak and cold stomach, frequent vomiting and diarrhea, stomachache, stomach upset, abdominal pain and so on.

Apparently, illnesses associated with pale upper or lower lip color are generally acute or intense, it could be quite severe and need immediate attention.

Conversely, you might have suffered for the condition like weak intestine (pale upper lip) for a long period of time. In term of TCM, you need to strengthen your intestine by taking appropriate nourishment, leading normal lifestyle (eat regularly and get enough rest)  and  doing regular exercise. Yes, wake up and start walking!

Foods that help to darken your lip color includes fruits and vegetables like orange, kiwi, apple, pineapple, spinach, pumpkin, potato, mushroom and besides that, you may take honey, red dates and gouqi tea.

Always rule out the causes and seek your doctor’s advice before you start any home remedies. Remember, lip color change is an indication of change in health condition. Do not overlook the problem.
